Mental Health and Wellbeing
Ensuring good physical and mental health is a key curriculum driver at Silkstone Primary. Children's wellbeing underpins everything that we do so that our children feel happy, safe, respected and valued. Through our PSHE curriculum children learn about their mental health, how to recognise their emotions and strategies for maintaining good mental health. Weekly Circle Time provides opportunities for children to discuss any concerns that they have. We have Worry Monsters in each classroom, where children can post a worry if they wish. These are responded to by class teachers. We also have our Wellbeing Champion, Mrs Ellis, who is ELSA trained and provides additional support to individual children. We work closely with Compass Be who provide a number of workshops in school both for pupils and parents to promote good mental health and wellbeing.
We have a group of pupil Wellbeing Warriors, who have been trained to befriend children and offer support on a lunchtime. We have Buddy benches in the playground that children can sit on it they have a worry or need a friend and our Wellbeing Warriors will chat to them.
