Silkstone Primary school caters for children between the ages of 5 and 11. If your child was born between 1st September 2018 and 31st August 2019, they’ll be ready for starting school in September 2023. The year 6 children transfer to their secondary school following their eleventh birthday. We encourage children to visit school before they begin full time.
How to apply for any school place (primary or secondary)

Barnsley Residents
Since September 2012, you have been able to apply online for a primary school place via the BMBC online admissions site. For your child to start primary school in September 2023, you need to apply for a place before the deadline of 15th January 2023. There are two ways you can do this:
- Using the above link to apply online
- Complete a paper application form which can also be downloaded from the above link, alternatively you can collect a form from the main school office. Completed paper forms should be returned to the headteacher of your preferred primary school or to School Admissions, PO Box 634, Barnsley S70 9GG (before the deadline of 15th January 2023)
Non-Barnsley residents
Contact the school admissions service at your local council for a copy of their school admissions booklet and fill in the form included in it. Do not use the Barnsley application form or Barnsley’s online system.
